Mothering Artist: Marie
How do you practice your art of mothering?
I practice my art of mothering by constantly being open to learning and growing. I enjoy learning ways of other mothers, fathers, caregivers, families, and seeing how that resonates with me, and how it can teach me to be a better person. I truly believe that we can all learn from each other. From my experience, being a parent brings you to a path of consistent innerwork; of really working and striving hard to be a person worthy of being imitated by our little ones. And with that, I practice a lot of patience, compassion, and forgiveness, because it is no easy task to be a parent, especially at this day and age where families are more spread out, and support is harder to find.
What are the simple things in life that fill your heart?
Being outdoors, in nature, with my family fills my heart because that’s when we are at our happiest. There is so much for them (and for me) to see, learn, and experience when we are outdoors. They teach me to slow down, to re-see the things that have become so normal to me; to be in awe of the land and the creatures that surround us. Another thing that fills my heart is when I see them being kind to one another, to other people, and to living creatures.
What is one quality you think your child loves about you?
I think one quality that my children love about me is my gentleness and kindness.
What is something you gained from Mothering Arts?
Mothering Arts has been life-changing for me. The courses have been such a huge help in navigating our family life and my life as a woman and a mama. It has given me so much guidance in how I want and how I create our family rhythm and dynamics. I also joined the Sebastopol Mothering Arts Circle when my youngest was a few months old, and that really meant a lot to me — that’s why I am starting my own circle in a few months to offer to my community.
Mothering Arts seeks to uplift and inspire parents to celebrate their unique art of mothering. When we can share and witness our one of a kind gifts, true community and connection blossoms. Through our daily lives, we express a shared experience, the dynamic experience of mothering. Each mother is an artist and life itself is her canvas.

I have admired how you have been a great mother to your two lovely boys. They certainly behave so well because of the way you nurture them with your loving kindness. In today’s world, it is so refreshing to watch your boys and how fun it is to be with them. I feel so hopeful. They have good values. You and Sam are great parents. I enjoy being with your family!
